Chelsea football club, commonly referred to as Chelsea, is professional football club based in Fulham, London, England. Founded in 1905, the club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Chelsea plays its home games at Stamford Bridge, a stadium with a capacity of approximately 40,000 seats.




History 

Chelsea was founded on 10 March 1905 by Gus Mears after he acquired the Stamford Bridge athletic stadium with the intention of turning it into a football ground. The club quickly gained admission to the Football League and played its first competitive match in September of the same year. Chelsea initially wore light blue shirts, but later adopted the now-iconic royal blue kit in the early 1960s.

Chelsea achieved its first significant success in 1955 by winning the First Division title. However, it wasn't until the 1990s that the club began to emerge as a consistent force in England and European football, culminating in its acquisition by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003, which led to a period of unprecedented investment and success.

  • Didier Drogba: A powerful striker known for his goal-scoring ability, especially in crucial matches. Drogba scored the equalizing goal and the winning penalty in the 2012 UEFA champions League final.

Ownership and Finances 

Chelsea was owned by Roman Abramovich from 2003 until 2022, a period during which he invested heavily in the club, transforming it into a dominant force in English and European football. In May 2022, a consortium led by American businesses Todd Boehly and the private equity firm Clear lake Capital acquired the club. 
Chelsea has one of the highest revenues of any football club in the world and conconsistently ranks among the top ten in the Deloitte Football Money League. 

Community and Social Initiatives 

Chelsea is actively involved in various community and social Initiatives through its Chelsea Foundation. The foundation works on community outreach programs, social inclusion, and diversity projects, and also supports grassroots football.
