Tottenham Hotspur football club, commonly referred to as Tottenham or Spurs, is a professional football club based in Tottenham, London, England. The club competes in the English Premier League, the top tier of English football. Founded in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur has a rich history and is known for its attacking style of play and its strong connection with the North London community. 


History 

Tottenham Hotspur was formed in 1882 by a group of schoolboys from the Tottenham area. The club's early years were spent in non-league football before joining the Southern League in 1895. In 1901, Spurs became the first (and only) non-league club to win the FA Cup since the formation of the Football League, a feat that helped establish the club's reputation in English football. 

In 1908, Tottenham was elected to the Football League Second Division and gained promotion to the First Division the following season. The club experienced success in the early 1950s and 1960s under the management of Arthur Rowe and later Bill Nicholson, who led the team to the "Double" in 1960-61, winning both the Football League First Division and the FA Cup in the same season.  Tottenham also became the first British club to win a European competition, securing the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1963.

Tottenham Hotspur plays its home games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in April 2019. The Stadium, located on the site of the club's former ground.  White Hart Lane, is one of the most modern and technologically advanced Stadiums in European.  With a seating capacity of 62,850, it is the largest club stadium in London and features a retractable pitch that allows for hosting NFL games, concerts, other events.

The club's traditional colors are white and navy blue, and it's Crest features a cockerel standing on a football, which dates back to the early 20th century. The cockerel is a reference to the fighting cocks bred by former player otnd club captain, Harry Hotspur, after whom the club is named.
